LABIAPLASTY FAQS
We’re sure you have questions, and we’re here to answer them! Below are some frequently asked questions that might help, but we’re also available via phone or email for anything that might be on your mind!
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, women usually require 4 days recovery time post-procedure and it is recommended to avoid any friction on the pubic region — the vagina, urethra, labia, clitoral hood — from sports or intimacy for 8-10 weeks post-op. Overall, there is minimal discomfort associated with this procedure and the sutures that are used dissolve on their own.
Labiaplasty can be performed under sedation anesthesia to avoid any pain, or it can be done in an exam room under local anesthesia, supervised by plastic surgeons.
Labiaplasty will not leave external scarring, which is why it is beneficial to have a board-certified plastic surgeon perform this procedure. We ensure that any incisions naturally fold into the creasing of the skin.
Like most surgical procedures, there is some initial numbing in the area where the incisions are made. This will fade over time.

MonaLisa Touch® & Vaginal Revitalization FAQ’S
We’re sure you have questions, and we’re here to answer them! Below are some frequently asked questions that might help, but we’re also available via phone or email for anything that might be on your mind!
The MonaLisa Touch is a laser therapy procedure designed to address vaginal dryness, discomfort, and other symptoms associated with menopause or hormonal changes. It involves the use of a fractional CO2 laser to gently stimulate the vaginal tissue, promoting collagen production and rejuvenating the area.
The MonaLisa surgery can help treat a variety of vaginal health issues, particularly those associated with menopause, hormonal changes, or aging. It’s used to address vaginal irritation, dryness, discomfort, and pain during intercourse (dyspareunia), which often result from decreased estrogen levels. The procedure can also help reduce vaginal itching, burning, and urinary incontinence symptoms. By promoting collagen production and rejuvenating the vaginal tissue, the MonaLisa Touch can restore elasticity and improve overall vaginal health.
The best candidates for the MonaLisa Touch therapy are typically women experiencing vaginal discomfort, dryness, or painful intercourse, often due to menopause or hormonal changes. MonaLisa Touch is also suitable for women who wish to improve vaginal health without hormone-based treatments. Ideal candidates are those seeking a minimally invasive procedure to address these symptoms and restore comfort and elasticity to the vaginal tissue.
The MonaLisa Touch laser treatment works by using a CO2 fractional laser to gently stimulate and heat the vaginal tissue and blood vessels, promoting collagen production and tissue regeneration. This process helps restore elasticity, vaginal moisture, and overall health to help alleviate symptoms like dryness and discomfort. The treatment typically involves minimal downtime.
The MonaLisa Touch® is an in-office procedure performed by an experienced physician. The procedure is virtually painless and requires no anesthesia. Some patients may experience some discomfort the first time the probe is inserted, but the actual treatment is not painful. A consultation with a MonaLisa Touch laser treatment doctor can answer any questions about the discomforts involved and how to manage them.
The procedure is similar to almost any other vaginal rejuvenation procedure and is not as invasive as plastic surgery. A strong lidocaine-based numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure. This will ensure that this is a painless process. Before the laser is activated, everyone in the room must wear special eye protection which will be provided. The metal wand used will feel cool initially inserted. You will feel a vibrating sensation. You may experience a tingling sensation and or air puffs during the treatment. These may get stronger near the vaginal opening. There might be a slight sizzle sound during the laser pulse. There might be a slight odor from the vaginal tissue being warmed up. The procedure lasts about 5-10 minutes. An occlusive ointment will be applied after the completion of the procedure. A pad will be provided to protect your clothing. There will be no dermal fillers or chemical peels involved in this.
Some women experience a watery discharge or light spotting for a day or two after the cosmetic surgery. The vaginal area may feel swollen or full. Do not put anything inside your vagina for 48 hours such as tampons or sexual intercourse. After 48 hours, the area should feel normal with no discomfort. You will be scheduled for 2 additional treatments 6-weeks apart to complete the recommended protocol to achieve the maximum benefits from the MonaLisa Touch® procedure.
- Your skin may feel sensitive and may be red and swollen. The treated area may be itchy.
- Use cold compresses or cold gel packs (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) as needed for swelling and discomfort.
- Gently cleanse the area, including the labia minora and labia majora, 2-3 times a day with mild soap.
- Dry the area with a hair-dryer on low heat instead of wiping with a towel. This is much less abrasive to the tissues. And a better way to improve the results.
- Reapply a skincare occlusive ointment (Aquaphor) after each washing and continue to use until your skin is healed.
- You use Motrin or Advil as needed.
- Avoid lifting heavy weights or intense physical exercise for 72 hours following the treatment.
- Wear loose, cotton underwear.
- Avoid wearing pantyhose and tight-fitting pants.
